For Home Users… finding recovery beyond clinic walls

When outcomes matter, having the right equipment is critical

Discover what home users have to say about the Gait Harness System

“I am suggesting my patients get a Second Step device to them, because we know that over-ground training gives the best recovery results.”
Carlos Lima, MD, Department of Neurology, Hospital de Egas Moniz, Lisbon, Portugal

"I have a tremendous respect for the work you do and wish you nothing but continued success. It's comforting, at the very least, to know that even 3,000 miles away, there are still kind, caring people out there who understand what one encounters in caring for a disabled loved one. Your product is ingenious and should receive more accolades."
Scott A., son of father with stroke, orthopedic, SCI issues, Staten Island, NY

The Gait Harness System is….
….. new and inspirational
“Your videos of brain injured folks, like my son, using the GHS brings tears to my eyes because it reminds us tonever give up and to keep trying new things.”
Bonnie P., parent, Eugene OR
"I can walk with KAFO’s around the track using the Second Step GHS and with little assistance from my trainer along with crawling forwards, backwards and side to side. I’m making progress with my stability along with increasing my upper body strength. If it weren’t for this program, I don’t think I’d be doing the unbelievable things I was told I would never do again."
Amy F., T-11 para user, Elkader IA

“An interesting case was a young patient who suffered a brain injury and wanted to get back to his soccer and sports activities. He initially was not able to do these activities due to his spasticity and coordination issues. By progressing him in the GHS, where he was allowed to safely make mistakes, he was able to eventually skip, jump, and do single leg activities safely. He was delighted that he could return to some of his favorite activities again.”
M. Rosalia Arellano, MSPT, Scripps Mercy Hospital, Outpatient Neuro Rehabilitation Department, San Diego CA

“I didn’t walk for 14 years until coming to RIM. With the GHS, now I can walk four laps around the track with small breaks in between and also crawl about the same.
John T., T-12 para/amputee user, Bannister MI

“I am only 58 years old, post stroke, and feel like a prisoner not only in my body but in the care facility I now have to reside in.   I was told I'd never walk again or have any movement on left side and I proved them wrong.  I'm determined to make as full of a recovery as I can.  Never will I stop fighting to get my life back and I believe that the second step is an essential weapon in my fight against the odds.  I feel as though some prayers were answered when my son found you on the internet.  I know this equipment will get me one, two, three, steps closer to my freedom, to my life, to the day when I walk out of that nursing home and never look back.  This equipment I know will save my life, end my physical limitations, stop my weight gain, and gift me with a bright and happy future. Thanks for giving me new hope and new faith. “
Gayle P., post stroke user, Astoria OR

“My son James has developmental disabilities, and goes to a day treatment center. He is happy to finally be on his feet. The Gait Harness System is opening up a whole new world for him.”
Sandra Reed, mother of DD user, Anaheim CA

…… logical and easily portable
“I am a T12/L1 paraplegic. I found the Gait Harness System on the internet, after I couldn’t find anything like it here in Europe. The GHS has helped me a great deal in rehab, I can easily move it from rehab back and forth to my home."
Paul R., SCI user, Wales, United Kingdom
“We are impressed at the logic, simplicity and engineering of the GHS. It certainly seems to be superior to the “Lite Gait” device which is apparently sold here in Hong Kong.”
David R., son-in-law of user, Hong Kong China

…… allowing  me to comfortably walk at my own pace
The Second Step Gait Harness System has helped me tremendously. I have tried body weight support treadmill training, with both an overhead lift and with the Lokomat. I’ve also tried the Litegait. I’ve also combined the Lokomat with the GHS and the latest therapy from the Rehab Institute of Michigan. What the GHS allowed me to do is walk at my own pace, with or without assistance. It allowed me to fully weight bear and with little to no discomfort, unlike every other harness. And that’s not even mentioning the obvious benefits, like endurance cardio."
Bob Smith, C5 ASIA B, user, Harrison Township MI

"I served our country, active duty, during the Korean War. After badly healed fractures in my leg, my ribs, and my arm kept me in bed at a nursing home for six months, I was told I shouldn't expect to walk again. Well, they don't know me!  I'm a competitive guy. This is me, resting after my first day walking after those six months, happy to be on my feet again. Six weeks later, I'm alot stronger, and I'm walking so fast up and down all the hallways at the  home, the staff can't keep up with me!"
Donald D., veteran and post CVA, TBI and orthopedic user, Eugene OR

"He is doing great, already showing improvement in his endurance and his steps are getting smoother. I want to thank you for all you have done to help us.  Sometimes good people find themselves in positions they never in a million years thought they would be in, and thank God there are still caring and compassionate people like you (and those with your company) who are still willing to help someone when they can. Your kindness was a blessing to me and Clay. Thanks again."
Deputy Amanda C., wife of Deputy TBI user, Green Cove Springs, FL

“My client is an 18 year old, who experienced a TBI last year resulting from a shooting accident. He has used LiteGait and complained about discomfort in the groin area with that equipment.  He is very happy with the GHS, and decided to purchase one for home use."
K. Thornton, PT, Benefis Healthcare, Great Falls MT

“I’m able to stand and walk using the Second Step with the help of my trainer. Strength in my upper body, trunk control and my sitting posture has improved a great deal.”
Cortney H. ,C 5-6 quad, Riga, MI

….. providing healthy opportunities for recovery
“Just this morning the GHS was bringing some amazement and tears to staff members as a student used it successfully.”
David Cacciatore, Physical Therapist, Lane School, Houston TX
“Our client is a 13 year old girl with a diagnosis of hypotonic cerebral palsy. She has very low tone in trunk and is low functioning. Funding purchase for the GHS was through her school, which also allows her to use the GHS at home. She was a perfect candidate for the GHS., as there aren’t a lot of options for her needs. The classroom aide has started trying it in different places on campus, and she is doing even better than she was in the classroom. She is walking up to 150 feet and is happy!”
Danielle Cheung, PT, PCS, Pediatric Certified Specialist, Southern CA Pediatric State Rep for APTA, 2010-13 APTA Chair of Pediatrics Sports-Fitness SIG, Southern CA Clinical Director for FUNfitness for Special Olympics, Monrovia CA

"This was Mike's first day in the walker. His transfers have improved!"
Sherrie T., wife of post stroke user, Nashua NH

“Most individuals will not have home access to a body weight support treadmill training system after they leave the clinic, but may be able to implement an over-ground system, like the GHS, that allows for efficient over-ground training reinforcement. I use the GHS in the clinic, and refer it for home use, to accomplish this reinforcement."
William Thornton, MPT, Lead Physical Therapist,
The Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery®, Rehab Institute of Michigan, Detroit MI

“Using the Gait Harness System has been a life changing experience. It is allowing me to restore my ability and confidence. It’s hard work, but it’s good work. This has helped me become stronger. It’s great to feel my muscles again."
Marlene M., cerebellar degeneration  user, Corvallis OR

.....easy to use
“After his stroke, we have been using the Gait Harness System with our 43 year old son Joseph to train him in walking with his full weight on his feet. It will take him a long time to learn to walk by himself, even with a walker. But with the GHS, he can develop his movement safely."
Richard L., 87 year old parent trainer of post stroke user, Medina OH

"I can walk with KAFO’s around the track using the Second Step GHS and with little assistance from my trainer along with crawling forwards, backwards and side to side. I’m making progress with my stability along with increasing my upper body strength. If it weren’t for this program, I don’t think I’d be doing the unbelievable things I was told I would never do again."
Amy F., T-11 para user, Elkader IA

.....saving us money
“My husband had a brain aneurysm 11 years ago, when he was just 21 years old, followed by multiple strokes. I do daily therapy with him at home.  He tried different equipment pieces at his clinic, but they all cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. He loves how the Gait Harness fits him, and is doing great."
Malissa R., wife of BI and post stroke  user, Alma AR
“Whatever it costs---it’s worth it.”
F.B., mother of SCI user, New York NY

.....keeping users and caregivers safe
“After my accident, I didn’t walk for 22 years because everyone was afraid I would fall. Using the Gait Harness System to walk again is a dream come true!"
Knute M., TBI user, Corvallis OR

“Our son was injured in 1982. He had a closed head injury, a damaged cerebellum, and is partially paralyzed on one side. He has a history of falling when using conventional walkers. Jr. has used more computerized version of walking equipment, but he prefers the more streamlined design of the GHS. We also like the portability of the GHS, as Jr. lives at an adult care home during the week, and comes home on weekends. Jr. really looks forward to working with this device every day, and we have several therapists who are eager to help him with it."
Dolores L., mother of TBI user, Spring TX
“I believe the GHS would be beneficial in the home. It would help with carry over and safe household ambulation, decreasing risk of injury for patient and caregiver. “
M. Rosalia Arellano, MSPT, Scripps Mercy Hospital, Outpatient Neuro Rehabilitation Department, San Diego CA

“We have an elderly female participant with a history of severe osteoporosis and hip fractures, who hasn’t walked for quite some time due to fear of falling and progressive weakness. She was SO excited to walk again using the GHS!”
Cheri Babb, RN, MN, CNS, Executive Director, Grace Center for Adult Day Services, Corvallis OR
“My 79 year old husband had a stroke 7 months ago, and a complete knee replacement 7 weeks ago. Without a doubt, the safety feature using the harness in the ambulator gives him complete confidence in case he has to rest or loses his balance. He is able to walk and use his legs, hips, shoulders and arms as naturally as possible."
Rose Rodriguez, wife of post stroke user, Tampa FL

If a user is going to recover, everyone has to work together, and work hard. Recovery is possible.

No problem is too big…if the right people, with the right treatment, and the right System, go at it the right way

…..keeping therapists & patients safe
“Patients cannot fall using the GHS as the harness is designed to support their full body weight if necessary.  No walker or cane can compare to the safety of this System.”
